At this Venice, California eatery, you’ll find some of the freshest eats in town. Located on hipster Abbott Kinney Blvd., it’s a bustling, modern, and really pleasurable dining experience. Beet, burrata, and speck salad is just as colorful and delectable as it sounds; red wine pork meatballs have a smoky deliciousness; and the smoked salmon topped with creamy goat cheese, chilies, and radishes on house-made bread is rich, yet surprisingly crisp and bright at the same time.
The show stopper is the bread! Whether it’s the hand-tossed pizza crust that’s crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside, the hearty country loaf that tops off a mouth-watering sandwich, or the crusty rye bread that accompanies an app, Gjelina’s bread is a must eat. Top it off with a terrific beer tap and service that’s pleasurable (yet not annoying!), and you have a winner. The best part for families? Gjelina is really great to kids and makes substitutions to their menu items (a rarity at most LA hotspots). They also serve up carry-out next door if you don’t have time for a sit down lunch and our server told us that a Gjelina bakery is in the works, too! Reservations are highly recommended (especially for dinner) as Gjelina gets busy.
After our yummy lunch, we strolled down the boulevard and went into some of the city’s most unique shops followed by homemade ice cream for the kiddos. It was a perfect afternoon.
