My uncle used to say that “there’s no such thing as bad pizza” and while I love pizza probably as much as he did, I can also comfortably add that some pizzas are much, much better than others. During my first years in San Diego County, I had to rely on my annual visits back east to get my fix for the best in pies: wood-fired crusts that are crisp and smokey on the outside, yet delicate and chewy on the inside, accompanied with the best and freshest in cheese, sauce, and toppings.
This, however, is no longer the case in San Diego. Located in North Park and Vista, Urbn Pizza offers a sure-fire recipe for success: the perfect pie, coupled with a fun ambiance; Frank Sinatra as a background accompaniment; pizza makers tossing crusts in their white, v-neck tees; fresh salads; and a solid tap and wine selection to choose from. And, if you love beer (like all good San Diegans do), make sure to stop by the Vista location. Mother Earth Brewery, directly across the street, offers a beautiful, open space and provides the best in San Diego brews. Order you pizza and the kind folks from Urbn walk it over to Mother Earth for you. Now, if that isn’t a reason for a west coast pizza throwdown, I don’t know what is. Details: www.urbnpizza.com
